Video Game Consoles - The Secret To Intense Gaming

Video game consoles are the engine room of modern video gaming systems. Sitting between the gamer and the television, video game consoles turn the players' fevered clicks into nearly realistic screen action. These gaming machines have to be versatile enough to handle any game placed into them, yet powerful enough to provide a fast-paced gaming experience. The most popular video game consoles are the PlayStation 3, the Nintendo Wii, and the Xbox 360. Here are some of the reasons for their popularity.

Video game consoles can only play games that have been specifically designed for them. A game made for the PlayStation 3 will not work in the Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii, for example. Video game manufacturers who can get a player hooked on a game in one format can often keep that player buying sequels. Players tend to buy the hottest games and the first video game console that will play that game. Game companies that are quick to market with the "must have" games can often lock a player into their particular brand of video game consoles.

I have tried to find out the specifications of the Nintendo Wii, but with not much luck. The unit plays both Wii games and games from the previous GameCube video game consoles. The key feature of Wii video game consoles is the Wii Remote. The remote is a wireless controller that the player manipulates in 3D space. The Wii console detects the movement, location, and speed of the controller and translates them into on-screen actions. The player gets more exercise during game play than the typical fingertip controllers. There have been reports that players are getting so intent on game play that they lose grip of the controllers and break nearby items. Owners of these video game consoles are urged to use the controller wrist straps while playing.

The Sony PlayStation 3 or PS3 is the latest in the line of the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 video game consoles. The basic console version carries a 20 GB hard drive, with a 60 GB drive on the premium version. Wi-Fi connectivity is standard. The PS3 features a 3.2 GHz processor with satellite processors to perform different jobs simultaneously. These video game consoles come with 256 MB RAM and the Nvidia graphics processing unit. Games can be played on both regular and HD televisions.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 was the first video game consoles that provided a wireless controller at the initial release. Owners can use the Xbox Live service to compete against other players online, and to download games and related content. These video game consoles were released in two configurations: a basic or core system, and the premium system. The premium system included a detachable 20 GB hard drive, chrome finish, ethernet cable, a headset, and a media remote not found on the basic video game consoles. Microsoft has added access to Xbox Live Video, an online video store, to these video game consoles.

Most video game consoles will cost in the $300-$500 range. Purchasing one commits you to one of these video game consoles, unless you want to spend that much again for a different console. If you are buying games for your favorite gamer, find out which of these video game consoles he or she owns before you shop.
